Administration Department

The Administrative Department includes the Town Clerk and an assistant. This department is responsible for providing support to the Town and all of its other departments. The staff is responsible for water/sewer billing and collections, municipal tax billing and collections, zoning, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and benefits administration for all departments. Administrative personnel can help citizens establish their water/sewer accounts, provide information on all Town functions and services, and handle all planning and zoning related questions. Please contact the Town Hall at 910-974-4221 if our staff can be of assistance to you. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Town Hall located at 214 S. Main St.

Police Department

The Town of Candor Police Department is located at 208 S. Main St. in the same complex as the Town Hall. The police department currently has four full time officers, 2 part-time officers and 1 reserve officer. The Town of Candor Police Department works hard to make Candor a safe place for all of its citizens and strives to keep the crime rate the lowest in the County.

Public Works

The Town of Candor Public Works Department is responsible for a wide variety of services to the citizens of the Town. Personnel in this department are responsible for the maintenance of the Town’s water and sewer lines, the operation of its wastewater treatment plant, the maintenance of Town facilities and many other tasks. The Town of Candor’s wastewater treatment facility is the only spray irrigation system in the County. The effluent is applied to over approximately 42 acres of spray fields located off Old Barn Rd. 2 ½ miles east of Town.

The Town contracts with Browning Ferris Industries to provide solid waste pickup for its citizens. Garbage is picked up once a week on Tuesdays and only trash in the BFI containers will be picked up. Currently the Town does not offer any recycling programs but Uwharrie Environmental Regional Landfill has a variety of recycling programs and is located in nearby Troy. The Town does provide curbside brush pickup. Leaves, pinestraw and grass clippings must be bagged or in sheets and brush must be no more than 6 feet in length stacked evenly curbside. Brush and debris other than brush cannot be mixed together. For your convenience a solid waste disposal site is located on Vivian St., open five days a week.

Fire Department

The Town of Candor Fire Department is an all volunteer department, currently with 22 active members. The Fire Department boasts an ISO rating of 9, which helps to keep the homeowner’s insurance rates low for our Town. The Fire Department is located at 142 S. School St. Each year on the third Saturday in June, the Candor Fire Department has a lawnmower pull at the Farmers Market located at 165 Farmers Market Rd. This year the department will hold a lawnmower pull on October 9th and if successful , they will have two annual lawnmower pulls. For more information, contact Fire Chief Edd Stuart at 910-974-7499.
